Join SPJ/PRSA for Lunch on Wednesday, February 14 - "The Changing Newsroom"


Join us for lunch and a lively panel discussion as The Public Relations Society of America, Cincinnati Chapter and Cincinnati Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists discuss the changing newsroom.

Pam and Jennifer will discuss their award-winning Blacksmith media relations campaigns and how they successfully penetrated through the clutter of all the media messages that bombard the public. Jen also provided insight into the TV news industry having worked in it for more than 10 years before making her transition into PR four years ago.

Chip Mahaney is the 11th News Director in WCPO history, in a line created by the legendary Al Schottelkotte. Chip joined WCPO in November 2016, after 8 years of service with WCPO’s parent company, E. W. Scripps, building up local digital operations around the country. His 35 years of service in professional journalism includes reporting and producing in news, weather, sports, as well as newsroom technology and leadership. He is a long-time member of the board of directors of Radio Television Digital News Association, as well as an Emmy and Murrow winner. Chip is a frequently-requested trainer for news leadership and social media, teaching for organizations/conferences such as EIJ (SPJ/RTDNA), ONA, Poynter and the Carole Kneeland Project. Chip is a runner, who favors half-marathons and 10k’s. He is married to Susan Mahaney, a former longtime TV news producer/manager. They have two children, and they live in Anderson Township.

Michael Kilian is senior news director at Enquirer Media in Cincinnati. In his role, he oversees much of the local news report online at Cincinnati.com and in the printed Cincinnati Enquirer. He has worked for Gannett Co. Inc. news sites for much of the past quarter-century, including in Upstate New York, Vermont and Maryland before coming to Ohio in early 2015. He is a graduate of Cornell University and is a member of the Rotary Club of Cincinnati.
